May 08-12, 2023 Erasmus+ KA1 Mobility to UPCT, Spain: We are pleased to announce that the selection process for the Erasmus+ KA107 Program, conducted under the framework of the International Staff Week at Universidad Politécnica de Cartagena, has been successfully concluded. May 20, 2023: Concluded a meeting with the Amity Foundation and Shanshui Conservation Center, China representative, regarding possible research collaboration. Dr. Narayan Prasad Khoju, nec-CPS, presented his work on Snow Leopard in Gaurishankar Conservation Area. After seven months of camera trapping in Lapchi Valley, NTNC-GCAP has confirmed the physical presence of the Snow leopard (Uncia uncia) for the very first time in Gaurishankar Conservation Area (GCA).



November 28-29, 2022: Assoc. Prof. Petia Georgieva (Profile Link )  from the University of Aveiro, Portugal  (Machine Learning & Intelligent Robotics Lab) shall visit the college from 28 November to 2 December 2022. We have proposed Nov 28-29, 2022, for delivering lectures on the following topics: Machine Learning and Deep Learning in Brain-Computer Interfaces.

November 25, 2022: Nepal Engineering College successfully conducted a comprehensive Continuous Professional Development Workshop on Bloom's Taxonomy, STEAM Pedagogy, Collaborative Learning, and Classroom Management in technical collaboration with Kathmandu University School of Education. The workshop was conducted on November 25, 2022, at the Nepal Administrative Staff College's Khaptad Hall in Jawalakhel. The day-long workshop encompassed a range of activities and sessions aimed at enhancing faculty members' professional skills and knowledge. This workshop provided a valuable platform for NEC's faculty members to enhance their teaching methodologies and refine their skills, ultimately contributing to the overall educational quality offered by the institution.


October 2022: Participated in the B+NeSDG capacity-building training at Kathmandu University along with other consortium members! The Erasmus co-funded B+NESDG project has been initiated to apply the Principles of Sustainable Development in Nepal and Bhutan. Students selected in the B+NeSDG project also attended two KU training days.


August 14-26, 2022: Conducted the multidisciplinary student workshops jointly with Nepal Engineering College (Nepal), Kaunas University of Technology (Lithuania), Jigme Namgyel Engineering College (Royal University of Bhutan) (Bhutan), Kathmandu University (Nepal), Delft University of Technology (The Netherlands) for Problem-Based Learning (PBL) student case on “Preserving adobe architecture of Nepal”, during the period 14-26 August 2022. The joint student case was organised as an integral part of the PBL South Asia project co-funded by the Erasmus+ programme of the EU, which develops best practices in interdisciplinary and intercultural problem-based education and adapts PBL methods for the curricula of partnering South Asian higher education institutions. There was active participation from nec-PBL SA members led by Assoc. Prof. Durgaprasad Bhandari along with Assoc. Prof. Ram Suwal, Assoc. Prof. Rupesh Dahi Shrestha.



August 17, 2022: IPO (International Programs Office) in collaboration with Assoc. Prof. Rosina Mali, Department of Civil Engineering, organized an insightful talk program at Nepal Engineering College (NEC). The event focused on "Possible Applications of GIS in Nepal and the Way Forward." Esteemed researcher Prof. Pradeep Kumar Mool, an expert in Engineering Geology, delivered the talk. Notably, Prof. Mool had generously contributed a substantial collection of books, research reports, and GIS-related materials to the nec-Library before the event. The program facilitated knowledge exchange and highlighted the valuable contributions of Prof. Mool to the academic community.

The B+NeSDG Project, which is supported by the Erasmus+ program of the European Union, focuses on education as the foundation for imparting sustainability principles in young people. In these developing countries, education transcends classroom learning; it becomes a vehicle for inculcating Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)-aligned knowledge, values, and attitudes. The ultimate objective is to promote positive change within higher education institutions and throughout entire societies.

A Global Effort in Collaboration

One of the extraordinary accomplishments of the B+NeSDG Project is its ability to bring together prestigious institutions worldwide for a common cause. In addition to Nepal Engineering College, universities such as Riga Technical University from Latvia, Jigme Namgyel Engineering College Dewathang from Bhutan, Sagarmatha Engineering College, Kathmandu University, and Far Western University participated in the B+NeSDG Project Easter School held at Pokhara University from April 30 to May 6, 2023. This collaborative strategy illustrates the effectiveness of international cooperation in advancing sustainable development.

Easter School was more than a simple gathering; it was a transformative experience for the attendees. Through a week of lectures, workshops, and discussions, students investigated the implications of sustainable development objectives for higher education institutions. By establishing relationships with peers and experts, participants obtained new perspectives on sustainability, thereby enhancing their skills and igniting their commitment to a more sustainable world.

Developing Capabilities for a Sustainable Future: Significant milestones have characterized the journey of the B+NeSDG Project, including participation in capacity-building training at Kathmandu University in October 2022. As part of the project's commitment to integrating sustainable development into educational frameworks, students designated for the B+NeSDG project participated in training sessions designed to strengthen their understanding of sustainability's principles and practices.

Enlightening Dialogues for Progress: Associate Professors Durgaprasad Bhandari, Rabindra K. Bhdhathoki, and Bibhuti Ojha participated in a transformative meeting hosted by the Polytechnic University of Cartagena (Spain) in July 2022. During this interaction, there was a dynamic exchange of knowledge. The primary objective of these interactions was to equip educators from Bhutan and Nepal to facilitate Education for Sustainable Development (ESD) with innovative teaching and learning approaches. By attending a crucial project meeting in September 2022, assistant professor Krishna Bikram Shah was instrumental in advancing the B+NeSDG Project. Officials and professors from institutions such as Riga Technical University (Latvia), Hellenic Open University (Greece), Polytechnic University of Cartagena (Spain), and Far Western University (Nepal) gathered to discuss various Sustainable Development Goals-related topics. These objectives, which are often referred to as a universal call to action, include the eradication of poverty, the protection of the environment, and the improvement of global well-being.

Dissemination of SDGs & B+NeSDG ProjectThe B+NeSDG Project aims to educate the faculty and students of Nepal Engineering College about the fundamental tenets of sustainable development. By doing so, it seeks to cultivate an academic environment that promotes accountability and ingenuity. The objective of the project is to enable individuals to proactively effect change by means of a range of focused activities and endeavors, such as curriculum integration, awareness campaigns, student engagement initiatives, research endeavors, and community outreach efforts. Through the distribution of these goals, our intention is to cultivate a profound comprehension of sustainability and its pertinence to various fields of study, thereby stimulating cooperative endeavors geared toward the realization of the Sustainable Development Goals in Bhutan and Nepal.



B+NeSDG Easter School Program at Pokhara University: The B+NeSDG Project Easter School was successfully conducted at Pokhara University, Pokhara, from May 1 to May 6, 2023, where esteemed universities such as Rīgas Tehniskā universitāte (Riga Technical University) from Latvia, Jigme Namgyel Engineering College Dewathang from Bhutan, Sagarmatha Engineering College, Kathmandu University, Far Western University is participating along with Nepal Engineering College from Nepal. The B+NESDG project is focused on implementing the Principles of Sustainable Development in Nepal and Bhutan. With such a diverse and prestigious group of universities coming together, we are confident that we can achieve great progress towards our sustainable development goals. The primary objective of this event was to provide students with an opportunity to delve deeper into the concept of sustainable development goals (SDGs) and how they can actively contribute to achieving them. The B+NeSDG Project Easter School has left an indelible mark on the participants, equipping them with invaluable insights and a renewed commitment to contributing to a more sustainable world. Problem-Based Education in South Asian Universities (PBL South Asia)

SAWA Leadership Program on Climate Change (2017-2021) in continuation to earlier IDRC SAWA Fellowship Project for iWRM program, is being supported by International Development and Research Center (IDRC) Canada and executed by South Asia Consortium for Interdisciplinary Water Resources Studies (SaciWATERs) in four academic institutions of South Asian Countries including nec. The aim of the program is to increase the number of women occupying leadership roles in the water sector fostering an interdisciplinary approach linking climate change and water insecurity by awarding fellowships to 36 women enrolled in master’s level Integrated Water Resources Management (iWRM) program in Bangladesh, India, Nepal and Sri Lanka. Three female students for three academic sessions from each academic institution shall receive financial support to pursue course in Interdisciplinary Water Resources Management (iWRM). Currently, nec as one of the Partner Institutions (PIs) had successfully completed the 14-day workshop for the first batch of SAWA Fellows on “Leadership and Research Methods for Interdisciplinary Water Research”. The second and third workshops are scheduled to be held in India and Sri Lanka respectively.

Mobility for learners and staff – Higher Education Student and Staff Mobility (Student mobility Exchange program for studies)

Inter-institutional agreement 2018-2020 between Nepal Engineering College, Nepal and The Technical University of Cartagena (UPCT), Spain has been signed to cooperate for the exchange of students and/or staff in the context of the Erasmus+ programme. Both institutions commit to respect the quality requirements of the Erasmus Charter for Higher Education in all aspects of the organisation and management of the mobility, in particular the recognition of the credits (or equivalent) awarded to students by the partner institution. The institutions also commit to sound and transparent management of funds allocated to them through Erasmus+. Under this program, four students of nec has already completed 6 months of studies in UPCT.
